CMYK Primer: Preparing Images for Publication
Veteran Bay Area digital imaging and color management expert Marco Ugolini presents an all-day hands-on workshop on CMYK conversion and the art of preparing images for offset press publication. Marco will lay the groundwork for a clear and solid understanding of color fundamentals, and will demonstrate useful hands-on imaging techniques for photographers, graphic designers, and other people who may be having difficulties understanding CMYK or the requirements for quality offset printing. If you’re gripped by anxiety whenever someone asks you to provide CMYK files, or if your print jobs don’t look as good as you expect them to, then you need to attend this workshop!
Our goals for the workshop are that in the future:
- Understand the differences between RGB and CMYK color spaces.
- Understand the general structure of CMYK profiles.
- Learn how to examine CMYK profiles using ColorThink Pro and other tools.
- Understand the role of the Profile Connection Space in conversions.
- Understand the importance of the black channel, GCR/UCR, TVI, and TAC.
- Understand how CMYK is used in theory and in actual practice.
- Understand the basic principles and mechanics of RBG-to-CMYK conversions.
- Learn to recognize potential “problem images” and understand how to approach them.
- Understand the role of “device links.”
